Women in Gaza mark International Women’s Day, marching against siege

The Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees in the Gaza Strip marched in solidarity with women living in caravans in Beit Hanoun and in Khan Younis to mark International Women’s Day.

Iktimal Hamad, head of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, spoke, emphasizing that the UPWC is marking March 8 with the women living in caravans, suffering due to siege and international complicity in the attacks on the lives of Palestinian people, including Palestinian women, in Gaza. “Our situation in the Gaza Strip is one of siege and blockade, and an absence of any meaningful action to address the suffering of the people, while the occupation continues its crimes against the Palestinian people,” she said.

She called for urgent action to assist the families continuing to live in caravans because their homes were destroyed by the occupation army in the 2014 assault on Gaza, and the promised “international reconstruction” was denied due to the international and United Nations complicity in the siege on Gaza. She said that the so-called international community is complicit in the Zionist siege and violating the human rights of the Palestinian people and particularly the rights of Palestinian women and children, and demanded the prosecution of war criminals for their actions.
