Palestinian youth in Lebanon mark Land Day, urge resistance to Zionism and boycott

tyre1Commemorating Land Day, the Palestinian Youth Organization, the Lebanese Democratic Youth Union and the Union of Palestinian Democratic Youth held a cultural event and political rally in Istanbuli theatre in Tyre, Lebanon, with the participation of Palestinian and Lebanese political parties and the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel in Lebanon.

Comrade Rima Mansour of the Lebanese Democratic Youth Union opened the event, discussing the Lebanese and Palestinian Arab struggle to confront Zionist aggression and expansion, noting the historic unity of the Lebanese national resistance with the Palestinian resistance.

Comrade Hisham al-Zaatar spoke on behalf of the PYO, recalling the history and development of Land Day in Occupied Palestine ’48, when the Palestinians of the Galilee confronted the Zionist enemy attempting to steal their land. In practice, he noted, this was not only confrontation of a momentary policy but of the Zionist project as a whole in Palestine. He saluted the struggle of March 30 1976 as a date of critical importance in the history of the Palestinian revolution, representing the sacrifices of the Palestinian people in confronting the Zionist enemy. He noted today’s uprising and intifada in Palestine, saluting the youth who take up all forms of resistance to confront the soldiers and settlers, and saying that the road forward for the Palestinian revolution is that of resistance.

Further, discussing the situation of Palestinians in Lebanon, he stressed that Palestinians’ rights must be recognized and respected as the only means to support the struggle for return and for the liberation of Palestine. Palestinians in Lebanon must, he said, have their rights at the political, social, and human level, saying that they must not be dealt with as an issue of “national security” but rather of national liberation.

Comrade Raed Ataya of the Lebanese Democratic Youth Union saluted the Palestinian youth rising in the intifada, developing new and creative paths of resistance and confronting Zionism. He said that resistance is the path to the liberation of land, the right of return, and the liberation of prisoners.

tyre5tyre6Comrade Shadi Ayoubi of the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel in Lebanon spoke about the boycott as part of a comprehensive resistance to the Zionist project, noting the importance of foreign direct investment in the Zionist economy. He further emphasized the rejection of all forms of normalization with the Zionist state and noted the work of the Campaign in confronting normalization in all forms.
