Wihda party condemns gas deal with Zionist state, commemorates Intifada

Marking the 27th anniversary of the Intifada and the 40th day after the Deir Yassin operation of the martyred fighters Comrades Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal, the Popular Democratic Unity Party (Wihda Party) of Jordan held an event December 23 in Amman.

Comrade Leila Khaled, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP, spoke about the 47th anniversary of the Front, and the Deir Yassin operation in the context of the PFLP’s history and continuing armed resistance to the colonial occupation.

She denounced the draft resolution on Palestine before the UN Security Council, saying that “The Popular Front refuses this resolution on the recognition of a Palestinian state in 2017 because it contradicts and undermines the Palestinian national program of the right of return, an independent Palestinian state and its capital in Jerusalem, as well as conceding ‘land swaps’ that attempt to legitimize colonial settlement and the confiscation of Palestinian land. The response to the escalating aggression and its crimes against the Palestinian people and land is true national unity based on Palestinian principles and resistance in all forms, rejecting and ending security coordination, negotiations and division, and going to the International Criminal Court to punish the Zionist war criminals.”

“The resistance, including armed struggle, is the way to achieve the Palestinian people’s rights,” Khaled said.

Dr. Ahmed Armouti spoke, saying that Palestine is the cause of the entire Arab nation and not of the Palestinians alone. He emphasized that the people of Jordan reject any gas deal and all other agreements with the Zionist enemy. The proposed gas deal, Armouti said, is a pledge of economic subordination to the occupier. “We reject all forms of normalization with the occupier. No state, movement or individual has the right to give up one inch of Arab Palestine.”

Comrade Dr. Said Diab, the General Secretary of the Wihda Party, said that the Intifada came after the Palestinian people demanded to assert their rights in the face of a blatant conspiracy at the Arab level, and the Intifada has provided a model of sacrifice and struggle. He saluted those who have paid with their lives for the freedom of their people.

He said that the Arab nation is facing a crisis of regional and international intervention, stoking and encouraging internal sectarian infighting, which cannot be separated from the imperialist plans and projects to re-divide the region.

He noted that poverty, unemployment and tyranny provides a fertile climate for reactionary extremist forces, especially when the role of the left is minimized and directed toward liberalism rather than revolutionary change and class struggle.

The attempt to redirect the struggle in the region from a just struggle for liberation against the Zionist enemy to a sectarian internal conflict against our people is a deep threat for the Arab people and benefits only imperialism and Zionism, Diab said.

He denounced the proposed gas deal with the Zionist enemy, noting the growing popular rejection of this serious strategic threat of economic dependency. Confronting the Zionist project, he said, is the entrance to the path to the liberation of Jordan from dependency.
