“Our Palestinian resistance is 100 years old:” Interview with Khaled Barakat

The following interview with Palestinian writer and activist Khaled Barakat was published (in the Greek language) in the Greek newspaper, Efimerida ton Syntakton:

What is the current situation concerning the Israeli-Palestinian relations since the last assault on Gaza? Do you support the notion that this war was won by the Palestinian Resistance?

This war was won by the Palestinian resistance, because the Israeli enemy did not achieve its goals. In fact, Israel committed war crimes, killing over 2000 Palestinians, and destroying tens of thousands of homes, targeting health workers, and many other crimes. This is what colonizers and occupiers do to the indigenous, native population, and to oppressed communities – exert massive state violence on a whole population. But if we are discussing real, military battles, confrontation on the battlefield, the Zionists and their backers have lost miserably. Just read what Israel’s top generals have had to say about this war. No military expert – or even someone with basic military knowledge – would disagree with this, after seeing the results. The resistance managed to capture Israeli soldiers from the battlefield, managed to hold their ground, and rebuffed the ground invasion. Every time the Israeli forces lost on the battlefield in the ground invasion, their response was to massively bomb civilians. Lastly, the armed resistance is growing by the day...

What would be your message to the Greek people?

Our message to the Greek people is that Palestinians know the support and solidarity they have in Greece. The relationship between our two peoples is very long and deep in history. In every Intifada, we always find Greek fighters, revolutionary political parties, in the forefront of solidarity with Palestine. We know also that you are going through harsh times, fighting economic hegemony, plundering the resources of the Greek people, threatening your water, land and air. We stand in solidarity with the Greek people’s fight to reclaim their country and liberate Greece from these forces. This is a message of love, respect and the commitment to struggle for Palestinians, Greeks and all people of the world who seek freedom, justice and liberation, and a truly just world for humanity.

The Front pledged to Comrade Jawabreh, and all of the prisoners and martyrs of our people, to continue the path of resistance until the liberation of the entire land of Palestine.

PFLP salutes the Palestinian masses and urges escalation of uprising

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine salutes the masses of the Palestinian people in the West Bank, in Jerusalem, and occupied Palestine ’48 as they take qualitative actions and embody steadfastness and popular intifada and confront the occupier. This is the true picture of our people, their will and their commitment, which cannot and will not be defeated by Zionist crimes, the conditions of the moment, Arab complicity and international collusion against the Palestinian people and cause.

The Front saluted the escalating heroic operations against Israeli soldiers and settlers in occupied Palestine, especially in the West Bank and Jerusalem, noting that this is an expected response to the crimes of the occupation and that resistance is the most effective method to defend our people against the systematic Zionist war on their existence.

The Front noted the role of liberated prisoners in these heroic operations as an indication of the fact the the prisons of the occupation have been and continue to be schools to produce revolutionary heroism and sacrifice, which is a major component of our Palestinian people and their struggle against the occupation.

The PFLP noted the Israeli Ministerial Committee’s approval of proposed legislation applying Israeli law to the settlers in the West Bank as a serious development and an attempt to impose “facts on the ground” and annex the West Bank settlements to the occupation state.

The Front also denounced the recent ocucpation actions, especially the attempt to destroy Palestinian homes in Jerusalem and declare them “illegal” and the campaign of incitement against our people in occupied Palestine ’48, the demolition of the homes of the families of those who carry out operations against the occupiers, and the escalation of settlement construction, as revealing the true racist face of state terror that is inveighed against our people in occupied Palestine. They are confronting malicious attempts to break their will and force them to surrender and submission.

The Front urged the masses of our people in every part of Palestine to continue and escalate the popular struggle to an overwhelming popular intifada against the Israeli occupation, and for our people in the Diaspora to escalate their support for the struggle inside.

The Front also demanded that the Palestinian Authority and its security forces adopt a national stance to serve the people, by ending security coordination and any ties with the criminal occupier, and instead change the function of the security agencies to provide security to our people to protect them from Zionist attacks, and confront Israeli policy and practices based on a comprehensive national strategy that ends negotiations with the occupation state and prioritizes national unity.

The PFLP renewed its call for the formation of popular protection committees to confront the attacks by settlers against our people. The Front also called for an urgent meeting of the provisional leadership of the Palestinian national movement and the PLO, including all factions, to discuss the escalating Zionist aggression, and develop a unified national plan to support the steadfastness of our people and their intifada in the face of the occupation, and for the Palestinian official leadership to immediately join the International Criminal Court to prosecute the occupation for its escalating crimes against our people.

The Front called upon the Arab people and international allies and friends around the world to escalate comprehensive boycott against the occupation and expose the practices and violations of Zionism.

Abu Ahmad Fuad: We are on the threshold of a new popular intifada

“We are on the threshold of a new popular intifada,” said Comrade Abu Ahmad Fuad, Deputy General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

In an interview with Al-Mayadeen TV, Fuad said, “The events taking place in Palestine, including the operations carried out by young people in light of the growing Israeli escalations and violations against our people, demonstrate that we are on the potential threshold of a massive popular intifada, as we will see through the coming period.”

He pointed out that “the next intifada is not necessarily like its predecessors, but it is possible to take on new methods and tools. We are at a stage which requires us to use all methods and means to make the enemy retreat from its plans in Jerusalem and defend the rights of the Palestinian people.”

“The Palestinian people have immense creativity in developing all methods to confront the occupation. The Palestinian people have arrived to the point of anger, and have found that the road best suited to confront the occupation is the path of resistance,” said Fuad.

Palestinian Youth Organization calls for freedom of imprisoned anti-imperialist Turkish youth

A statement issued by the Palestinian Youth Organization in Lebanon:

The Palestinian Youth Organization is demanding the immediate release of Turkish members of the World Anti-Imperialist Youth Union from Turkish government jails.

Çagdas Cengiz, chair of the Turkish Youth Union; Elif Ilhamoglu, secretary of the World Anti-Imperialist Youth Union; and Ugur Aytaç, deputy chair of the Turkish Youth Union, and 13 more comrades, were arrested by the Turkish government following their protest against the entry of the US warship USS Ross (DGG71) to Turkey.

The youth protested at the shores of Istanbul’s port, working to prevent US soldiers from entering Turkish beaches; the US soldiers were there for a NATO mission in the Black Sea. The USS Ross is a guided-missile destroyer warship. The youth protesters chanted “Down with American imperialism!” and “Yankee go home!”

It is critically important to unite all progressive and leftist forces and youth in their struggle against the assaults of US imperialism and Zionism, which aim to destroy our homeland and subjugate our people to the dominance of US imperialism and Zionism.

We in the Palestinian Youth Organization stand in solidarity with our international comrades who struggle against US imperialism and the Zionist enemy, with a unity of purpose to confront our common enemy. We call for the release of all detained comrades.

Long live Palestine! Long live international struggle against imperialism and Zionism!

Freedom for our prisoners in Israeli occupation jails and in the prisons of all states.

Victory is ours!
